Norman Vincent Peale is the famous author of the book "The Power of Positive Thinking" which has sold over 20 million copies in over 41 different languages worldwide. He was born in Ohio, USA on May 31 in 1898 and became one of the most influential clergymen in the entire US during the 20th century.
During his childhood he helped provide income for his family by doing odd jobs such as delivering newspapers, working in a grocery store and so on. After studying at Ohio wesleyan University and Boston University he ordained in the Methodist Church in 1922 serving as a Pastor for many different churches. However it was as pastor to Marble Collegiate Church in New York City (1932–84) where he gained fame. The main reason for this was due to his deliverance of Christan teachings combined with a positive approach. This inspiring approach saw his congregation grow from 600 to over 5,000. There popularity was one of the reasons for him to become featured regularly live on radio and television.
It seems that Peale's positive approach may have sprung out of his inferiority complex as a youngster. He managed to successfully combine psychology and the Bibles teachings into what has become known today as 'positive thinking' as illustrated in the quote:
"through prayer you ... make use of the great factor within yourself, the deep subconscious mind ... [which Jesus called] the kingdom of God within you ... Positive thinking is just another term for faith."
and also...
"Your unconscious mind ... [has a] power that turns wishes into realities when the wishes are strong enough."
Such was the impact of his sermons that for 54 years Peale;s weekly radio show was broadcast on NBC and his sermons were mailed to over 700,000 people each and every month and his life even became the basis for a filming 1964 entitled: "One man's Way".
His simple, optimistic, and dynamic sermons brought increasing numbers of parishioners and increasing fame to Peale. For 54 years Peale's weekly radio program, "The Art of Living," was broadcast on NBC. His sermons were mailed to 750,000 people a month. His life was subject of a 1964 movie entitled One Man's Way.
The main organizations that Mr. Peale helped form include:
The Horatio Alger Association (1947) – This organization aims to recognize and honor American citizens who have been successful despite adverse circumstances.
The Peale Centre, The Positive Thinking Foundation and Guideposts Publications all actively help to promote, continue and preserve the same teachings of Repealed.
A selection of quotes from Norman Vincent Peale:

"The person who sends out positive thoughts activates the world around him positively and draws back to himself positive results."
"Getting people to like you is merely the other side of liking them."
"Anybody can do just about anything with himself that he really wants to and makes up his mind to do. We are capable of greater things than we realize."
"Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude toward it, for that determines our success or failure. The way you think about a fact may defeat you before you ever do anything about it. You are overcome by the fact because you think you are."
"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture... Do not build up obstacles in your imagination."
